In recent years major scientific studies have proven that plant based foods are very nutritious and can combat chronicle sickness. Next to their nutritional contribution, foods also affect our mood, mind and thoughts. That’s the extra layer in relation to food into which I am diving in this book. How, next the nutritional and physical level, is food also influencing our vitality, mind, emotions and behavior?

The book is divided into 5 chapters according to the 5 elements from the traditional Chinese medicine (tree, fire, soil, metal, water). Each chapter will focus on a specific energy with information and recipes on the specific foods that belong to this energy.

What can you eat when you feel tired? Weak? Stressed? Emotional? Which foods can balance these states and which foods can give you the boost of energy you need.

ENERGY will be published on 14th of November by Karakter Uitgevers. A release party will follow on Sunday the 17th of November at 12:00. Save the date. You are all very welcome to join!

Like in a contemporary urban landscape this book is multicultural and culinary mosaic. It is layered with stories, jokes, emotions, people, friends, countries and cultures. Food has a story, the story has people, and people have history, feelings and culinary preferences. Some recipes are simple and some are more complicated, some are modern and some are traditional, but what unites them all is the love, the soul and the people that Gershberg portrays so generously through his cooking and writing.

De recepten in Vegan for friends bewijzen dat plantaardige voeding niet saai en flauw is. De gerechten van chefkok Alexander Gershberg zijn heerlijk en vol smaak!

Voor zijn originele gerechten gebruikt Alexander traditionele onbewerkte en pure ingrediënten, zonder vlees en kaas te imiteren. Maar Vegan for friends is meer dan een kookboek: het is ook een spannende reis vol verhalen achter de recepten.

In elk hoofdstuk van Vegan for friends gaat Alexander in op een ander thema met een aparte kookstijl. Van de traditionele Russische keuken van zijn moeder en Joods comfortfood dat hij voor zijn oma in Israël maakt, tot de Midden-Oosterse keuken waarmee hij is opgegroeid. Van de geïmproviseerde gerechten die hij voor zijn vrienden maakt met wat hij toevallig in huis heeft, tot de experimentele en gedurfde creaties voor de kunstenaars en muzikanten in zijn omgeving.
